Remembrance and Renewal: American Artists and the Holocaust, 1940-1970
The first exhibition to examine the Holocaust's influence on midcentury art, Remembrance and Renewal features 60-70 aesthetically and conceptually diverse paintings, sculptures, and works on paper by a wide range of artists, from social realists to Abstract Expressionists. Four thematic sections--Khurbn (Destruction), Galut (Exile), Zakhor (Remember), and Tikkun (Repair/Renewal)--offer insight into the ways that Jewish texts, traditions, and perspectives guided artistic engagement with the Holocaust in this period. A scholarly catalogue, published by Yale University Press, will accompany the show. A full prospectus is available by request. The exhibition is available beginning in 2026.
