Empty Shabbat Table For Their Return

The organization Darkenu, the largest non-partisan civil society movement in Israel, created this installation/community project, which draws attention to the more than 200 people abducted during the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The Empty Shabbat Table symbolizes the emptiness each family shares, when, all over the country, they gather each Friday for dinner, no matter their religion. The vastness of the table, with empty chairs for adults and babies, materializes the despair and longing each family feels when sitting at its own table. The organization encourages communities worldwide to create similar tables, sending a message — remember — to all humanity. See further details here.
